Have you driven down the street lately and had a low hanging tree branch hit your vehicle, or had to duck your head walking down a sidewalk - who’s responsible for this trimming? The owner of the property abutting the city right-of-way is responsible for the trimming of branches. All branches are to be at least fifteen (15) feet above the surface of the street and eight (8) feet above the sidewalk. If it is discovered that a low hanging branch is lower than these requirements and the property owner fails to trim the trees, the City of Red Oak may be forced to take legal action against the property owner. The Red Oak Fire Department is experiencing the problems with these low branches hitting the fire trucks causing difficulty to sometimes maneuver the equipment. With school getting underway, the school buses will also be facing the same problem. For the safety of you, your home and all children please check your trees and trim if necessary. Thank you for your cooperation.Mary BoltonCity Clerk
