A public hunting area of 196 acres acquired in 1992 with a grant from the Wildlife Habitat Stamp Program with a 75-25 match, a cash donation from the Montgomery County Pheasants Forever Chapters of $10,000.00 and other cash donations. A portion of this area has been planted to row crops and wildlife food plots by a FFA Cooperative of the FFA chapters of Red Oak, Stanton, and Villisca.
A boat launching facility built adjacent to Highway 48 Bridge on the East Nishnabotna River just west of Elliott. The Conservation Board has assumed the routine maintenance of this facility under an agreement with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
Erickson Wildlife Area was purchased from Wesley and Daryl Erickson in August 2004. It is 127 Acres and was purchased using Wildlife Habitat Stamp Grant and REAP funds. Erickson Wildlife Area is all public use area for hunting, fishing, and wildlife viewing. The Montgomery County FFA Cooperative plants all food plots for wildlife. No motorized vehicles are allowed on this area unless authorized by the Montgomery County Conservation Board.
A 3.75 acre triangular piece of land acquired from the IDOT located on Highway 34 between Stanton and Red Oak. Dorthy Franek gave the Montgomery County Conservation Board a $1000.00 donation for this purchase. A grant from the Living Roadway Trust Fund (LRTF) also provided funds for the planting of prairie grasses and wildflowers
This area totals 230 acres in size and is managed as a multi-use area. The public facilities at Hacklebarney Woods includes a campground with fourteen electrical sites, a horse campground with four non-electrical sites, a shelter house, three pit vault latrines, a swing set, approximately three foot bridges, picnic area and two ponds
This twenty acre park is the first park purchased and developed by the Montgomery County Conservation Board. The public facilities available include a campground with sixteen electrical sites, three shelter houses, three pit vault latrines, picnic areas, a sand and grass volleyball court, basketball court, swing set, two tetherball poles and a four acre pond. The park is closed between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.
The Tenville Canoe Access is located adjacent to the West Nodaway River near the intersection of H-34 and Highway 71. This access is currently almost unusable due to the erosion of the river. It is currently being used as a commuter parking lot instead of a canoe access. Future plans and grants are being submitted to fix this access.
